Largest Solar Power Plant of the World

The World Record of ‘largest solar power plant of the world’ has been jointly achieved by The Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System from Nipton, California, USA.

The Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System is jointly owned by NRG Energy, BrightSource Energy and Google. It has 300,000 computer-controlled mirrors, each 7 feet high and 10 feet wide. It is controlled with computers to focus the Sun’s light to the top of 459-foot towers, where water is turned into steam to power turbines. At full capacity, the facility’s trio of 450-foot high towers produces a gross total of 392 megawatts of solar power. It is sprawling across 5 square miles of federal land near the California-Nevada border.
